CommentaryThe Arab hostility towards Israel was inevitable given that its creation was at the cost of the Palestinian homeland. But instead of neutralising the Arab hostility by working for a Palestinian homeland Washington has sought to wean away the Arab regimes from the Palestinian cause. With a festering Palestinian wound, the undying resistance and an aggressive and insecure Israeli state, a stable Middle East will be an illusion.

CommentaryAs America reaches the third anniversary of President Bush's decision to invade and occupy Iraq, there is for the first time the unsettling realization brought about by the clarity of acts that emerges only after the passage of time that something horrible has happened. This awakening of collective awareness on the part of the American people is reflected not only in the numerous polls which show President Bush's popularity plummeting to all-time lows, largely because of the war in Iraq, but also the collective shrug of the shoulders on the part of the one-time cheerleaders for the war in Iraq -- the mainstream American media -- when covering the hollow rhetoric of the President as he tries to rally a nation around a cause that has long since lost its allure ...

CommentaryGeorge W. Bush lied about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, lied about a Saddam bin Laden terrorist link, unilaterally invaded Iraq which was not a threat to the US, preached democracy and allowed the abuse, rape and murder of Iraqi prisoners. In addition, George W. Bush has condoned two political assassinations by Ariel Sharon, has said that Israel has the right to maintain its settlements in the West Bank and the right to prevent the return of three million Palestinians refugees to Israel, and said nothing as the Zionists continue their destruction of Palestine and the killing of Palestinians. George W. Bush has made it clear that Syria and Iran are also enemies of the US. No one can doubt that in his second term the United States will probably invade these countries.

CommentaryThe environmental movement is facing some pretty tough challenges. Not only has the shamelessly retrograde George W. Bush been re-elected to the Presidency of the United States, but Republicans, whose overall voting record is significantly less environment-friendly than that of the Democrats, have had their majorities increased in both the Senate and the House of Representatives. This enhanced Republican domination increases the chances for appointment to the federal judiciary of judges who will rule against regulatory protections of our environment and who will prove amenable to the giveaway and/or unmitigated exploitation of public lands.
