| Illogical, Illegal and Ill-Fated |
The Arab hostility towards Israel was inevitable given that its creation was at the cost of the Palestinian homeland. But instead of neutralising the Arab hostility by working for a Palestinian homeland Washington has sought to wean away the Arab regimes from the Palestinian cause. With a festering Palestinian wound, the undying resistance and an aggressive and insecure Israeli state, a stable Middle East will be an illusion.

As America reaches the third anniversary of President Bush's decision to invade and occupy Iraq, there is for the first time the unsettling realization brought about by the clarity of acts that emerges only after the passage of time that something horrible has happened. This awakening of collective awareness on the part of the American people is reflected not only in the numerous polls which show President Bush's popularity plummeting to all-time lows, largely because of the war in Iraq, but also the collective shrug of the shoulders on the part of the one-time cheerleaders for the war in Iraq -- the mainstream American media -- when covering the hollow rhetoric of the President as he tries to rally a nation around a cause that has long since lost its allure ...

| An Open Letter to the Little Boy in the Red Shirt |
Sweet crying little boy. I see your face over and over on the cable news channels in their coverage of the New Oleans disaster and the resulting atrocity. I am old now. I too was once a little boy in a red shirt, growing up on a small farm in Northern Kentucky. ...

| The Two Americas - What is Cuban President Fidel Castro's Secret? |
Last September, a Category 5 hurricane battered the small island of Cuba with 160-mile-per-hour winds. More than 1.5 million Cubans were evacuated to higher ground ahead of the storm. Although the hurricane destroyed 20,000 houses, no one died.

| DIAGNOSIS: PSYCHIC EPIDEMIC |
The Unconscious, in its manifestation as a collective psychosis, is revealing to us that the key to resolving our world crisis lies in consciousness itself. Any one of us realizing this might be the very grain of sand that tips the scales for all of humanity and precipitates a collective awakening of consciousness that has been unable to manifest until right now.

| Sustainable Forestry…With a Chainsaw? |
A moving counter on the home page of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) lets web surfers know that the program is responsible for saving more than 5.3 billion trees since it was launched in 1995. "Keeping our forests healthy is important," the group, launched as an offshoot of the American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) solemnly proclaims. "Healthy forests will continue to provide the wood and paper products that are vital to all of us while also ensuring that we have forests and wildlife for future generations of Americans."

In a vision on February 11, 2005 Mary confirms once again that the U.S. will attack Iran and that U.S. troops are already deployed within that country. She indicates that an event will be staged in the U.S. and used as a justification to launch the attack.
She has previously indicated that Syria, Lybia, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia are also on the list of targets. "The North Koreans", she adds, "will have their hand in the mix, bringing a more dangerous plan alive.".

Imagine a vaccine that would protect women from a serious gynecological cancer. Wouldn't that be great? Well, both Merck and GlaxoSmithKline recently announced that they have conducted successful trials of vaccines that protect against the human papilloma virus.

Pharmacists think they have the right to deny women birth control and the morning-after pill. Senator Frist thinks God wants more ultraconservative judges on the federal bench and if you disagree, well, you know where you're going. Forget common ground, it's time to divide up the country.

| The Bush Answer: More Domestic Fossil Fuel Production |
Echoing public sentiment, President Bush has been talking a lot about energy in his latest round of speeches. In order to deflect criticism over steadily rising fuel prices, Bush wants to build new oil refineries on decommissioned military bases around the country.

It’s amazing the amount of horrific news we manage to filter out during the course of a day. I recently awoke to discover that there had been a major earthquake in Asia. CNN told me, “Hundreds of people are reported dead after a massive earthquake struck off the west coast of the Indonesian island of Sumatra, just three months after a huge quake and tsunami devastated the region.”

As I was moving in, my neighbor was moving out. To Humboldt County, to take up farming, he said. I imagined him in midlife crisis, fleeing corporate clonehood in suburbia for hard work and independence. And maybe he was, but I later heard that Humboldt County is the cannabis capital of northern California.

| A Lesson For Both Pro-Choice and Pro-Life |

I remember the way it was before Roe v. Wade. One of my college classmates, call him Steve, had a girlfriend we'll call Lori, who went to another school. Despite their passion, they took their responsibility seriously, and used birth control every time. But she still got pregnant ...

I nominate Dragnet's philosophy for the basis of moral public policy. You remember..."Just the facts, ma'am," as Joe Friday used to say. Because manipulation of the facts, from distortion to disregard, seems to be the hallmark of the anti-abortion and the anti-anti-abortion parties to our still to be resolved national debate, beginning with the names they choose for themselves: "Pro-Life" and "Pro-Choice." To which I say bullsh**. Neither side is as much pro- anything as they are anti-each other.

In secular society, marriage is a contractual relationship. Within religion, marriage is a spiritual bonding. I believe in the separation of church and state and therefore I believe that contractual issues between human beings should be dealt with in the secular law.

George W. Bush lied about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, lied about a Saddam bin Laden terrorist link, unilaterally invaded Iraq which was not a threat to the US, preached democracy and allowed the abuse, rape and murder of Iraqi prisoners. In addition, George W. Bush has condoned two political assassinations by Ariel Sharon, has said that Israel has the right to maintain its settlements in the West Bank and the right to prevent the return of three million Palestinians refugees to Israel, and said nothing as the Zionists continue their destruction of Palestine and the killing of Palestinians. George W. Bush has made it clear that Syria and Iran are also enemies of the US. No one can doubt that in his second term the United States will probably invade these countries.

There will never be any real semblance of peace on earth until we temper our materialistic excesses with a constant mindfulness that life on earth is temporary and that in the end we must consider our actions in this time and place. Virtually all the human beings on the earth acknowledge some sort of transcendent reality (God) which sustains us and to which prayers and meditations are directed.

| A Travesty Played-out In Ignorance |
When people are educated at universities, but never taught how to apply their education in an authentic manner ... ignorance becomes normal and the more power people get ... the more ignorance of the true meaning of life shows up in their actions. If any proof were need we only have to ask the question...Does a person who has suffered brain damage and can no longer feed themselves deserve to live?

Abortion. Same-sex marriage. Stem-cell research. U.S. legislators backed by the Christian right vote against these issues with near-perfect consistency. That probably doesn't surprise you, but this might: Those same legislators are equally united and unswerving in their opposition to environmental protection.

BoyCott Monster Cable Products We want people to know the truth about Noel Lee, founder of Monster Cable and how your tax dollars are being wasted in the Trademark and Federal Courts because of his legal mobsterism. Using our own legal system, The Head Monster intimidates little companies into signing a license agreement giving Monster Cable ownership of the word monster and claiming profits from products sold by any company with the word monster in their name. Monster Cable clearly has no respect for our nation's trademark laws, which are in place to protect companies rights, not satisfy Mr. Lee's greedy appetite ...

| This Week's Commentary: An Open Letter To The Environmental Movement |
The environmental movement is facing some pretty tough challenges. Not only has the shamelessly retrograde George W. Bush been re-elected to the Presidency of the United States, but Republicans, whose overall voting record is significantly less environment-friendly than that of the Democrats, have had their majorities increased in both the Senate and the House of Representatives. This enhanced Republican domination increases the chances for appointment to the federal judiciary of judges who will rule against regulatory protections of our environment and who will prove amenable to the giveaway and/or unmitigated exploitation of public lands.
